Another Explosion

This past weekend we had another explosion though it was nothing quite as good as that for which Holly, et al, experienced.

Soaked through...

I had gotten up twice with Dano and told Chris the next feeding was all his, I needed sleep. I heard the fussiness, I heard dad getting up and tending to the fussy one, I heard peace and quiet...then, after some unknown amount of time, I heard the heavy rushing footsteps down the hall of dad as he jollily shouted, "Mom, uh, I think we have a present for you, I felt her diaper move". Dad did in fact feel the diaper move...it was a mess!

That aside, we've been growing steadily now at an estimated 9.5 lbs. That's a small size for a 3 monther, but she's on target for doubling her birth weight by months 3-4. I can't seem to understand where this tiny little girl stores all that poo!?

Two weeks ago Dani turned THREE months old. I was never able to get a blog in with her stats or even a picture taken at 9:41 am. Admittedly, I beat myself up over this. I'm only now coming to terms with the fact that I am not, and cannot be SuperMom. I have to repeat to myself (albiet silently), "it is not neglectful to be less than SuperMom". Part of the reason I just don't post is simply that I cannot find the time. Dano is growing and changing rapidly. It's amazing to see her changes. Last week alone she refined her giggling. We're talking about the "from the gut" giggle. Watch Uncle Krusty do a Popeye impersonation, watch Gabe talk about Taco Bell burritos, watch Mommy play with her piggies, or even watch Daddy eat her belly and you will see her face go from a slight flirtatious smile that begs you to play into a full on giggle! She's also starting to learn that her bassinet means bedtime. She may fuss, she may take some time to self-soothe, but ultimately, she goes to sleep on her own when we lay her down. She will sometimes do this in her crib as well. Amazingly she has even learned to nurse. So, for all of you future mothers out there, when you are told that you won't be able to nurse a baby that has been given a bottle, shake your head at the naysayers, put on your "patience pants", and after some work, you will have a nursing baby. Sometimes it doesn't go so well, as in those times when she wants food now, and flowing fast with little to no effort. Otherwise, she's quite content to get the milk from the source! Her latest development comes in the form of teething, or so we think. She's really been chewing on whatever she can get into her tiny mouth and the drool has increased. I'll keep you posted on this development if it is indeed a toofus!

I guess the last thing I really wanted to do today in this blog was to give you some photos.

Some of these are from the camera that I keep in the diaper bag for candid moments, and some are from Faller Photography (as part of the JDA infant package from Anderson Hospital). In either case, I made sure there were some of my very favorite recent photos included!

post script: feel free to chime in on the comments with questions of her growth or motherhood in general, and for Holly, we love to hear the candid moments straight from the source...so write away...

I like being at my Aunt's house, fun people here all to entertain me!

Did I mention how entertaining it is at Aunt Holly's?

Epic Disaster

I received a call today from my sister who just happens to be babysitting Dani these days while I am at work. The phone call started like this, "Oh let me tell you about your daughter". Any phone call that starts like that involves a good story (be it good or bad, it's a good story).

Apparently Dano wanted to give the phrase "asses to elbows" a new meaning.

My sister had company over to the house, while she's conversing with this fellow, she hands Dani to Mark (aka Uncle Krusty). Dani starts up the farting (though that's not unusual) and continues to do so until somethin'-somethin' came with the air! Cue the exit of guest who wants to avoid the mess, smart move. As you might guess, she had a blow out of epic proportion. EPIC. As usual, the menfolk gag and run, it's okay, apparently this was gag-and-run-worthy. Did I mention EPIC? Gabe was sent for a bag, Mark was the official baby wipe warmer, poor sis was the cleaner-upper.

Dano, the EPIC pooper had a hefty bowel movement that came out of the diaper, sides and top; proceeded to fill the onesie so that it went up to the shoulders and down and out to the elbows. Ass to elbow!

What I want to know, where was she storing all that poo??!!

A Few of Her Favorite Things

It's been a long time since I really posted any updates about Dano...you can see why over at my other blog, but I'll spare you the rant here.

So Dano will be 3 months old as of next week. We have an appointment to get her pictures taken (as part of the newborn package we purchased while at the hospital). I'm hoping she won't be too fussy! Our next appointment with the doctor won't be until March, so no updates from that arena. I did however weigh her the other day at home and we're about 8.5 pounds. I'm also fairly certain she had a growth spurt just this week because she's been eating like a piggy and we had to adjust the car seat again. While I am so happy she's growing well, it makes me want to cry. My baby is growing up.

She is currently staying with her Aunt Holly and Uncle Krusty (eh, Mark) during the day and she seems to really enjoy it. Cousin Gabe also helps keep her entertained and she likes that guy, he's not only silly, but makes fun noises. We have some pictures from her babysitter experiences, but I'll save those for a post of their own [I say this because I don't have those pics with me].

In the past couple of weeks, my Dano has really started to show her personality. She smiles and giggles at the things she really enjoys and throws in the "princess factor" for when she wants you to know she wants something now, and 5 minutes is not NOW.

Some of the things we've learned (or re-established) that she enjoys:

  • Piggies (her toes being played with and 'This Little Piggy')

  • When mom says "weeeeee weeeeeee weeeeeee"

  • Daddy, pretty much anything daddy

  • The word watermelon (we have a few around)

  • Someone "getting" her nose

  • Being Nekked!

  • Showers/Baths

  • Snuggling in bed with mommy

  • The television

  • Stroller rides around the house, well, moving in general

  • In general, things are good. She's still not sleeping through the night, but she is at least nursing for her 2 a.m. feeding (all that continued trying at breastfeeding paid off). She's holding her head up pretty well but still does some bobble-head-baby. She's learning to roll to her side. She's starting to pull her feet up to her though not yet grabbing or holding them yet. She talks a lot. She melts our hearts!
