The Sippy Cup

There was a day not too long ago that Dani took her toy turtle, turned him upside down, filled him with water in the shower, and then tried to drink the water. I knew that meant she'd be ready for the real cups soon if I gave her the opportunity. Research indicates that babies of 6-9 months should transition to a sippy cup anyway. I'm not really ready for it, but if it's going to happen, at least it's fun.

We've been practicing with the sippy cup filled with water since my mom stopped by a week ago to deliver the new gift. Today at lunch I put some breast milk in the cup and gave it to her. She played with it as usual, then I put it to her mouth and she played a bit, took a suck and realized "whoa, that's milk, get in my mouth you rascal"...she took several good drinks, I took the cup away and she sighed as though she'd been waiting for this moment for ages!

Anyway, here's a quick thanks message to my mom for introducing the sippy cup!

6 Months Pictures

Well, Dani is sleeping at the moment, and therefore, I need to hustle to get any part of a blog in before she awakes.  So, here are some pictures from her 6 month "Watch Me Grow" session. [I didn't have much time so if you click on the picture and it's off the screen because it's so large, sorry....I'll try to come back and fix that later!]

6 Months Old

An entire week past Dani's 6 month birthday I am finally getting around to writing this post.  In my defense it's been a long week.  Dani's six month birthday and Mother's Day was last Sunday the 8th, my birthday and my older brother's birthday was Wednesday May 11th, Dani's 6 month check up was Monday the 9th, her 6 month pictures were Saturday the 14th, and to top off a week of busyness and working extra to make up time at work, my mom was in the hospital while Chris' dad is in Kentucky helping to care for Chris' sick grandfather.

Needless to say, I've been swamped but happy to have gotten through the week with only a few tears.

It's been a busy week in terms of skills too.  Dani recently learned to kick her legs hard enough to result in moving her body.  She learned to swing a good punch.  She experimented with a sippy cup and better yet, tried to drink water from her bathtub toy.  She has taken to holding her turtle under the shower head and pulling it to her mouth to "drink".  By the time the turtle gets to her mouth the water has either been dumped or has drained, in any case, she gets the concept.  The doctor recommended we drop the crib down to the lowest level, which I thought might be too early until I watched Dano Dano pull herself in the high chair.

She's been eating solids all week, 2-3 times in addition to her milk.  She has tried squash, green beans, peas, bananas, pears, and peaches.  She's had some rice cereal, but who wants that when you can have either something as tasty as peaches, or something as gross as peas when you spit them everywhere!  Luckily the only reaction we've seen is a diaper rash from squash.  We'll try again in a few weeks.

We've had some visitors this week, both grandmas, the neighbors, Jen, Becky, Brian (aka Skweak), Eva, and Jami.  6 months brings out all the loonies!  (wink wink, just seeing who's reading)!  We even had a quick visit to mom's office to visit the few brave souls that stick around on a Friday afternoon.  Talk about loonies!  (wink wink!)

With all of that said, it's time to share the real reason people come here, the stats and the pictures!

6 months stats:  24" tall with a head circumference of 15 3/4" weighing in at 11 pounds 6 ounces. (2nd to 5th percentiles) Wearing some 3 months clothes, some 6 months and very few 6-9 mo's.

Other Adventures Otherwise Unclassified - 1

Dani's First Rainbow May 02, 2011
Babysitter Riley

Aunt Holly

I thought I'd share a couple of adventures from Aunt Holly's...

Going for the chocolate sauce... (yeah, this IS my girlie afterall)

People to Amuse Dano-Dano:
Mark working on making Dano laugh
Gabe helping Dano sit up and play
Getting crabby with Aunt Holly, an excerpt (She really is my kid, I mean, she really really is):
Ok, I must tell you about your daughter today...

It all began when she woke up from her morning nap. She was happy, playful and hungry, everything was rainbows and unicorns...I went to feed her and I swore she was possessed! She screamed so loud, that I thought for sure the cops would be knocking at my door soon, for fear of a child being beaten. She would take a swig, spit it out, and fling the bottle. Milk was flying everywhere...After several attempts...I waved the white flag. She won. I was going as far as checking little toes to see if any were mangled or broke. They were not. No issues to be found. About 30 mins later, still screaming (yes, all 30 mins of it) SHE gave in and ate. Then she needed a nap after all that excitement! [...] the cycle repeated itself ALL day! I had her calm at about 4..she chose to ignore me and talk to everyone else (they had pizza and she wanted it..smacking her lips and all!) I called her everything(Dani, Dano, Poopsie, Goob, all of them) and I got nothing UNTIL I told her I was telling her mother on her. Then she looked at me and smiled. I told her that would not help her case, I was still ratting her out..she ROLLED her eyes at me and went back to talking to everyone else!
