Christmas Eve

This year, when we traveled to Moline to celebrate Christmas with my family, an elf showed up.  It was the first time for an elf.  We had three advent calendars (Lego, Hershey's Kisses, and jewelry).  Stockings were today.  I want Christmas to be magical tomorrow because you never know when magic fades.

Another Friggin Tooth

Another tooth out.  Sigh.

Great Christmas program at school with all my favorite carols.  A take home science test tomorrow night along with a 4 hour black belt test (pre-test).  Friday is the class party and then Christmas break (for the kiddo) begins!!

Sigh.

Another One Bites the Dust

December 12, 2019 . . . Another tooth out and another tooth barely hanging on.  She hung out with my mom while Chris and I went to a work party.  It was a night of doing reading homework on the karaoke machine, decorating the Christmas tree, and playing computer games.

This tooth was bottom right (her right), maybe the canine.

2 Hour Pre- Pre-test

Yesterday my kiddo participated in a 2-hour pre-test which is actually just a practice pre-test for her.  She won't pre-test until February.

It was an hour of non-stop exercise (starting with a 2-mile run) followed up by an hour of skills testing.

Those kids are so inspiring!

Last Week, Another Tooth

Monday, October 14, the kiddo had to have a temporary filling put in because she lost the filling that was there.  We go back October 30 to get the permanent one back in there.

But also, on Wednesday, October 16, she lost one of her teeth (bottom canine, I think).  We knew it was coming...

I can't recall if she lost the other one, but the top two are soon to follow!

Stats

Today was the annual visit to the doctor.  The kiddo is 51 pounds, 51 3/4", and on the chart.  She was on the chart last year for the very first time....how did I not post about that?  Anyway, small victories.

All is good!

Third Grade

It's been a while since I've put anything here.  While a lot has happened, it's also been quiet.

The kiddo started third grade.  She is/was so excited about having a "real math book" instead of just the workbook she used to have.  She feels like a teenager!

She almost learned to ride her bike without training wheels.  It's a thing we should have pushed for ages ago but she was always too afraid and here we are, nearly 9, and still not riding a bike.  She has gotten close though.

She no longer takes her favorite stuffed bulldog to school daily (only when a toy is permitted).

She's nearly as tall as I am and it saddens me because I see her changing mentally, emotionally, and physically.

I don't recall if she lost another tooth and if she did, did I post about it?  Anyway, we've done a follow-up appointment at the orthodontist.

Due to lack of coaches and volunteers for cross country, she isn't eligible to run this year (she is thrilled).  She should start a boot camp for Krav, very soon though, so running will still occur.

The other day she asked me what her first word was and for the love of everything wonderful, I cannot remember.  I thought it was here in this blog and it wasn't.  I sure hoped I'd write enough down that one day she'd say, "mom when did I first learn to do ...xyz...?", if I didn't know I could look here.  Put that down as a mom fail!

Speaking of mom fail, the other day I was snooping in the kiddo's social media app and accidentally sent a horrible selfie to all of her contacts.  WHOOPSIE!

Funny to everyone but me and the kid.

Well, here's to the beginning of a great new school year and hopefully more posts.

Tooth Nine?

In an exciting twist of events, the St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup last night!  It was thrilling to watch and experience.  The kiddo, who had a loose bottom cuspid, decided that last night was a good night to join hockey players and lose that tooth!

The Tooth Fairy didn't show up...rude.

2018 End of Year

First of all, let me say that the post "Rough Week" indicated that my precious girl lost her favorite earrings.  Well, she did, but we found them.  She had them in time for picture day and the world was fine.

I made her dress again this year for pictures, a pretty green velvet knit that was a pain to sew.  It did have a heart shape cut out in the back.

She turned 8, and in doing so ditched the booster seat in the car.  No, let me restate that.  She ditched it in dad's vehicle.  I wanted to wait before letting her out of it in my car but eventually caved about a week after her birthday.

She celebrated her birthday at Skyzone, which was fun for her and her friends.  She celebrated it ON  her birthday because it was golden (your age = the day of your birthday (in this case 8 on the 8th)).

Christmas was mostly uneventful.  She received a nice letter from Santa, some wonderful gifts, and we had a good time.  She did not want to head back to school today.

Other things: this year she asked me how babies come out of bellies.  She did not ask me how they get in there.  She's nervous because she thinks a boy (nicknamed Gus Gus) like-likes her (a dreadful thing at her age).  She's in advanced Krav Maga (brown belt 2).  She might doubt Santa.  Her reading skills, math skills, art skills, singing skills, and piano skills (among others) are so much more improved this year.  It's amazing to see a child coming together so to speak.  She's amazing, and I hope she knows it and will always remember it.
